Purpose
Upic Solutions is transitioning to a new version of Virtual Office. During this transition there are several applications that may require some data to be backed and restored into the new Virtual Office.
Quick Checklist Pre-Upgrade:
- Backup Bookmarks on any browser that is used.
- Backup Passwords on any browser that is used.
Quick Checklist Post-Upgrade:
- Restore Bookmarks that were backed up.
- Restore Passwords that were backed up.
- Restore Outlook Signatures.
- Restore Pinned taskbar pinned items.
Backup and restore browser bookmarks and stored passwords
The following are instructions on how you can export your web browser's bookmarks/favorites to move them over to another computer or import them into a new browser.
Note: If you are signed in, (sync'ing), to a web browser your bookmarks/favorites are available whenever/wherever you sign-in to that web browser.
Chrome
Check for sync
First determine if you are sync’ing your bookmarks to a Google account.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- In the upper right-hand corner if you see a person icon next to the vertical triple dots, click it.
- In the small window that opens; look for a message that says ‘Sync is on’.
Backup Bookmarks
If Sync is not on, to back up your bookmarks perform the following steps:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click the three vertical dots.
- Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
- At the top, click the three vertical dots> Export Bookmarks.
- Select the location and save your bookmarks file.
Restore Bookmarks
To restore your bookmarks to the Google Chrome browser, perform the following:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click the three vertical dots.
- Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
- At the top, click the three vertical dots> Import Bookmarks.
- Go to the location where you saved your bookmarks file.
- Select your bookmarks file.
- Click Open.
Backup Passwords
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click the three vertical dots.
- Go to Settings.
- In the Autofill section click on the Passwords line.
- Scroll down to Saved Passwords and click three-dots to the far right.
- Click Export Passwords.
- Select the desired place to save the file.
Restore Passwords
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- Type "chrome://flags" in the address bar then press Enter.
- Put your cursor in the search box and type "Password import".
- You should see, Password import appear.
- To enable, click the dropdown menu to the right and change it to Enabled.
- At the bottom right click Relaunch. (If any tabs are open all of them will be restored.)
- When Chrome reopens, click the three dots in the top-right corner, then select Settings > Passwords on the following screen.
- Click the three dots next to Saved Passwords then select Import.
- Navigate to your saved passwords file and select it, to import it into Chrome.
Firefox
Check for sync
First determine if you are sync’ing your bookmarks to a Firefox account.
- On your computer, open Firefox.
- In the upper right-hand corner click the three horizontal lines.
- In the window that opens; look to see if you are signed in.
Backup Bookmarks
If you are not signed in, to back up your bookmarks perform the following steps:
- On your computer, open Firefox.
- On the far right of your toolbar click the three horizontal lines.
- Click Bookmarks.
- Click Manage bookmarks at the bottom (<ctrl><shift>o).
- In the new window, on the left select All Bookmarks > Bookmark Toolbar.
- On the top row select Import and Backup.
- Select Export Bookmarks to HTML.
- Select the location and Save your bookmarks file.
Restore Bookmarks
- On your computer, open Firefox.
- On the far right of the toolbar click the three horizontal lines.
- Click Bookmarks then click Manage bookmarks at the bottom, (<ctrl><shift>o).
- In the new window, on the top row select Import and Backup.
- Select Import Bookmarks to HTML.
- Select your bookmarks file.
- Click Open.
Note: The bookmarks in the selected HTML file will be added to your Firefox bookmarks within the Bookmarks Menu directory.
Backup Passwords
- On your computer, open Firefox.
- On the far right of your toolbar click the three horizontal lines.
- Click Passwords.
- On the far right, click the three dots, (beneath the three horizontal lines).
- Select Export Logins.
- Select Export on the following window.
- Select the desired place to save the file.
Restore Passwords
- On your computer, open Firefox.
- Enter "about:config" in the address bar.
- Click to Accept the warning and proceed.
- Type "signon.management.page.fileImport.enabled" in the preference search bar.
- Double-click on the result to make it true.
- Launch a new tab or close & reopen Firefox.
- On the far right of your toolbar click the three horizontal lines.
- Click on the three-dots and select Import from a File.
- Select the file in the explorer and click Import.
Microsoft Edge
Check for sync
First determine if you are sync’ing your favorites to a Microsoft account.
- In the upper right-hand corner if you see a person icon next to the horizontal triple dots, click it.
- In the small window that opens; look for a message that says ‘Sync is on’.
Backup Bookmarks
If you are not signed in, (sync'ing), to a Microsoft account, perform the following steps to back up your bookmarks:
- On your computer, open Edge.
- Open the Favorites menu by clicking on the star with three horizontal lines, (<ctrl><shift>o).
- Click the three horizontal lines at the top.
- Select Export Favorites.
- Select the location and Save your bookmarks file.
Note: Microsoft Edge will not allow you to export just one folder, you will need to export them all.
Restore Bookmarks
- On your computer, open Edge.
- Open the Favorites menu by clicking on the star with three horizontal lines, (<ctrl><shift>o).
- Click the three horizontal lines at the top.
- Select Import Favorites.
- Choose which browser you would like to Import from, or Favorites or bookmarks HTML file if you wish to import from a file.
- When selecting a browser to Import from, also Choose what to import.
- When selecting Favorites or bookmarks HTML file.

- Click Choose file.
- Select your bookmarks file.
- Click Open.

Backup Passwords
- On your computer, open Edge.
- Click the three dots then select, Settings.
- Select Profiles from the menu, (on the left) then select Passwords, (on the right).
- Next to Saved passwords click the three dots, then select Export passwords.
- Select a location to store the file, then press Save.
Restore Passwords
- On your computer, open Edge.
- Click the three dots then select, Settings.
- Select Profiles from the menu, (on the left) then select Passwords, (on the right).
- Next to Saved passwords click the three dots, then select Import passwords.
- Select Choose file.
- Navigate to your saved passwords file and select it, to import it into Edge.
Internet Explorer (deprecated - IE no longer supported)
Backup Favorites
- On your computer, open Internet Explorer.
- In Internet Explorer, click the Star Icon (Favorites).
- Click the down-arrow next to Add to Favorites.
- Click Import and Export.
- Click Export to a file, and then click Next.
- Click to select the Favorites check box, and then click Next.
- Select the folder that you want to export your favorites from, and then click Next.
- Select the location and export your favorites file.
- Click Finish.
Restore Favorites
- On your computer, open Internet Explorer.
- In Internet Explorer, click the Star Icon (Favorites).
- Click the down-arrow next to Add to Favorites.
- Click Import and Export.
- Click Import from a file, and then click Next.
- Click to select the Favorites check box, and then click Next.
- Browse to the file that you want imported, and then click Next.
- Click Finish.
Backup Passwords
- On your computer, open Internet Explorer.
- Select the gear icon, (top right).
- Select Internet Options.
- Select the Content tab.
- Under AutoComplete, click Settings.
- In the AutoComplete Settings box, click Manage Passwords.
- This will open the Windows Credential Manager.
- Select Back up Credentials
- Select a location to store the file, then press Save.
Restore Passwords
- On your computer, open Internet Explorer.
- Select the gear icon, (top right).
- Select Internet Options
- Select the Content tab.
- Under AutoComplete, click Settings.
- In the AutoComplete Settings box, click Manage Passwords.
- This will open the Windows Credential Manager.
- Select Restore Credentials
- Navigate to your saved passwords file select it, then click Open to import it into Internet Explorer.
Outlook Signatures
The following are instructions on how you can restore email signatures after the upgrade to Virtual Office is complete.
- Open Outlook.
- Go to Sent Items.
- Copy your signature from an email you sent previously.
- Open a new mail message.
- On the Message menu, select Signature > Signatures.
- Under Select signature to edit, choose New, and in the New Signature dialog box, type a name for the signature.
- Under Edit signature, compose your signature.
- Under Choose default signature, set the following options for your signature:
In the E-mail account drop-down box, choose an email account to associate with the signature. You can have different signatures for each email account.
If you want your signature added to all new messages by default, in the New messages drop-down box, select one of your signatures. If you don't want to automatically add a signature to new messages, choose (none). This doesn't add a signature to any messages you reply to or forward.
If you want your signature to appear in the messages you reply to and forward, in the Replies/forwards drop-down, select one of your signatures. Otherwise, accept the default option of (none).
- Choose OK to save your new signature and return to your message.
Restore taskbar pinned items
- Search for the application in the Windows Start menu.
- Right click the application.
- Choose Pin to taskbar.
